Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) is a topical gel used to relieve pain in the wrists, elbows, knees, feet or ankles caused by arthritis, strains, sport injuries or other types of injury. This gel works by decreasing the hormones in the body responsible for causing swelling and pain. Its active ingredient is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
Dosage and Administration
Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) should be rubbed directly into the skin at the affected area. The exact amount of gel required depends on the size of the area requiring treatment. Doctors recommend a 2cm strip for covering an area up to 200 square centimetres. Before you use this gel, you must ask your doctor how often to apply it for. Patients are usually told to apply it 3 to 4 times per day, however you must follow your doctor’s instructions.
If your doctor has prescribed Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) to you, it is important to be aware that it may cause some side effects, including:
- Dryness or redness at the application site
- Skin irritation or swelling
- Pain affecting the stomach
- Dizzy sensation

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
