What is Detralex 500mg?

Detralex 500mg tablets contain a micronised purified flavonoid fraction comprising diosmin (90%) and hesperidin (10%). Detralex acts as a venotonic — increasing venous tone — and a vasoprotective agent, increasing the resistance of small blood vessels.

Detralex Indications

Detralex 500mg is recommended for:

• Treatment of venous vascular disorders — including swollen legs, pain and tired, heavy legs
• Symptomatic treatment of acute haemorrhoidal crisis

Before You Take Detralex

Do not take Detralex if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the micronised purified flavonoid fraction or to any of the excipients.

If haemorrhoids have not resolved within 15 days, consult your doctor. For venous vascular disorders, treatment gives optimal results when combined with a healthy lifestyle — avoid prolonged exposure to sun and heat, extended standing, and excess weight. Walking and wearing compression stockings can improve circulation.

In the absence of data on excretion in breast milk, Detralex should be avoided during breast-feeding. Detralex does not affect the ability to drive or use machines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking or have recently taken.

How to Take Detralex 500mg

• Venous insufficiency: 2 tablets daily — 1 tablet at lunch and 1 tablet in the evening, with a meal
• Haemorrhoids: 6 tablets daily for 4 days, followed by 4 tablets per day for the next 3 days, with a meal

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Possible Side Effects

• Common: diarrhoea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting
• Uncommon: colitis
• Rare: dizziness, headache, malaise, rash, pruritus, urticaria
• Unknown frequency: isolated cases of oedema of the face, lips and eyelids; in extremely rare cases, Quincke’s oedema (rapid swelling of tissues such as the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, which may cause breathing difficulties)

Active Ingredients and Excipients

Each tablet contains 500 mg of micronised purified flavonoid fraction: diosmin 90% (450 mg) and hesperidin 10% (50 mg). Other ingredients: sodium glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin, magnesium stearate, talc, glycerol, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, sodium lauryl sulphate, iron oxide yellow (E172), iron oxide red (E172), titanium dioxide (E171).
